Le
mardi 8 novembre 2016, une importante minorité de l’électorat américain
a choisi d’envoyer à la Maison Blanche le milliardaire Donald Trump, un
sexiste avoué et un raciste impénitent, qui a passé près de quarante
ans à s’en prendre aux personnes les plus vulnérables. Le fait
d’asperger de sa haine les femmes, les personnes de couleur, les
immigrant·e·s, les musulman·e·s et les personnes handicapées est la
forme la plus cohérente et la plus documentée d’engagement public de
Trump. Cet homme s’est vanté d’avoir agressé sexuellement des femmes
parce que, comme il l’a avoué à la légère, sa célébrité lui a facilité
la tâche. Nous pouvons seulement prendre pour acquis qu’un climat
d’hostilité et une anxiété sur ce qui risquait d’arriver à ses victimes
ont contribué à cette dynamique.
Le changement politique auquel nous
assistons maintenant, y compris la nomination au cabinet du président
élu de personnes reconnues pour leur intolérance, réaffirme le mépris
envers et la vulnérabilité structurelle de toute personne qui n’est pas
blanche, mâle, droite, cisgenre, non handicapée et de classe moyenne ou
supérieure.
En
tant que communauté de chercheuses, d’activistes et d’artistes
féministes, nous affirmons que le temps d’agir est maintenant. Nous ne
pouvons pas endurer quatre années de présidence d’un Trump sans nous
doter d’un plan. Nous devons protéger la justice reproductive, lutter
pour la vie des Noir·e·s, défendre les droits des personnes LGBTQIA,
perturber le déplacement des populations indigènes et le vol de leurs
ressources, défendre les sans-papiers et leur fournir des refuges
sécuritaires, refuser haut et fort toute islamophobie et s’opposer à
l’accélération du néolibéralisme et de ses politiques qui détournent les
ressources vers les 1% les plus riches et abandonnent celles et ceux
qui vivent au bas de la hiérarchie économique. Nous devons également
dénoncer la militarisation au pays et à l’étranger, et le déni des
changements climatiques qui menace de détruire toute la planète.
Nous
devons aussi rejeter les appels aux compromis, à la compréhension et à
la collaboration. Nous ne pouvons pas plier et nous ne plierons pas.
Notre première priorité est de résister. Nous devons résister à
l’instanciation de l’autocratie. Nous devons résister à cette perversion
de la démocratie. Nous devons refuser la propagande rassurante spin et
contester tout récit qui cherche à désigner le moment actuel comme de «
la démocratie au travail ». Ce n’est pas la démocratie; c’est la montée
d’une version étatsunienne du fascisme au XXIe siècle. Nous devons le
nommer, afin de pouvoir l’affronter et le vaincre. Les personnes les
plus vulnérables, au pays et à l’étranger, ne peuvent pas se permettre
de nous voir tergiverser ou garder le silence. Les menaces posées par le
colonialisme et l’empire des colons partout sur la planète n’ont jamais
été plus réelles, et notre volonté de nous opposer à ces injustices n’a
jamais été plus forte. Concrètement, aux États-Unis, nous nous opposons
à la construction d’un mur au long de la frontière entre les États-Unis
et le Mexique, et à la création d’un registre des résident·e·s
musulman·e·s.
Nous
devons nos meilleures réflexions, enseignements et efforts
d’organisation à la conjoncture actuelle et aux communautés pour
lesquelles nous luttons. Nous devons trouver des solutions créatives
pour répondre aux besoins immédiats des personnes qui seront gravement
touchées au cours des 100 premiers jours de la présidence de Trump. Nous
devons nous motiver à créer des cadres analytiques nouveaux, plus
précis et plus radicaux, qui puissent nous aider à articuler les enjeux
de l’heure.
La
chose la plus importante que nous puissions faire en ce moment est de
nous engager sans réserve par nos actions envers celles et ceux qui sont
marginalisés, d’insister pour que les médias soient autorisés à faire
leur travail, et de protéger le droit de protester et de faire
dissidence. Nous reconnaissons clairement que notre silence ne nous
protègera pas. Au lendemain du 8 novembre, le silence n’est pas
seulement un manque de mots : c’est une inertie profonde de la pensée et
de la praxis libératrice. Alors qu’attendons-nous? Nous sommes celles
et ceux que nous attendons. Nous nous engageons à nous battre, avec une
détermination farouche, au nom des valeurs et des principes en lesquels
nous croyons et des personnes que nous aimons.
